Well well.. What have I been up to lately? Too much, to tell the truth. Lots of shows, lots of work, lots of partying, and a new tattoo! I won't go into details, because frankly, I have to leave in 10 minutes to review a Gothërfall show, so.. :P

Here's a recap of my recent reviewing work. In french, sorry guys.. I do have a few translated stuff, like the Warmen album review, Cryptopsy and Moonsorrow (available on their official myspace page ) show reviews. Some of them are on my myspace page .

Albums:

Kalmah - The Black Waltz

Warmen - Beyond Abilities

Nightrage - Sweet Vengeance

Spectacles :

Cryptopsy (06-01-2007)

Dark Funeral (11-01-07)

Moonsorrow (17-01-2007)

Forgotten Tales (27-01-2007)

Point Blank Rage (28-01-2007)

Wolven Ancestry (10-02-2007)

All That Remains (19-02-2007)

Some shot of my new tattoo, best not overlight pic I got so far..

New tattoo overlight.. still the best shot.

Badass!

Hard liquor party, yes sir! This is not about saving 5 minutes of electricity, but to bring the problem up in the medias, to let people know about the urgency of the problem, and to let the Governments know that we as a people are agaist massive wastes of energy and that it's time for them to react and take action!

A 5 minutes break for the planet : it doesn't take long, it doesn't cost a thing, and it'll show the men and women we elected that global warming is an important matter that should be discussed more seriously in political debates.

Why Feb. 1st? On that date, in Paris, the new report on global warming hailing from the group of scientific experts at United Nations will come out.
Cryptopsy w/ Skinless, Neuraxis & Rostrum 06-01-2007

    <lj:music>Slayer - Altar of Sacrifice</lj:music>

This review was written for MetalUniverse.net , but I figured since it was a french webzine, it was ok to translate it to english and post it on my own fuckin journal \m/ Have all of you english fucks read it too, keep the propaganda going!

On this january 6th, Medley was host to the very first metal concert of the year, under the blessed supervision of BCI. A night to remember, with an excellent lineup to start 2007 in sheer brutality!

The scene lights up almost on time with the death/black metal Montrealers of Rostrum. The place is underpopulated, but the energy is there anyways. Under a feeble red lighting, the Reverend S.S. Rose goes about with his sidekicks, giving us a fair dose of well executed metal. If we rely on their performance, their album due out in July 2007 according to sources, will not be anything short of excellent.

On the relay, the band Neuraxis offers us a killer performance, with beyond comparison onstage energy. The crowd follows their lead, and the Medley soon bursts with the same energy. Then comes an official announcement by the owner of the joint, formal interdiction of stage diving and bodysurfing, probably due to the absence of a security fence. The crowd remains respectful of the regulation. Well.. Under the menacing of immediate expulsion, it was in their best interest! Even if Neuraxis' frontman stood against it, pleading that in Montreal, Metal is sacred, and that no one goes against that, the fans still remained with their feet on the concrete. His casualness is somehow justified, however..

Two songs before their set ends, the crowd is tested, as Ian Campbell announces that this gig with Neuraxis marks the end of his career in the band, his retirement from the music industry. He still comfort us affirming that he will be replaced, and that his departing doesn't signify the end for the death metal band cherish by Quebecers for over 13 years. With this, he end the show in good natured fun, met onstage for the last song by Alexandre Leblanc of Atheretic, with whom he shares the stage in a powerful duo, giving us our money's worth. We want to point out right now that Leblanc will NOT be the replacement for Ian on a permanent basis, but he will be replacing him for the next engagements on the band's calendar. The official replacement has not been chosen yet. At last, it's very sad news for the Montreal scene, to lose such an energetic and talented stageman and vocalist.

The New-Yorker band Skinless takes over the stage next. Just what we needed to get our minds off the bad news! After a few problems with the mic, the singer's stage presence took over and wiped off those few little snags. Delivering a fierce death metal, them New-Yorkers can do anything they want with a crowd! They pretty much did what they wanted as well, as their singer went stage diving, testing the bes metal crowd in the world once again! In fact, we can't really blame the poor american kid, the announce was done in french only!

After asking for circle pits, the band goes out there asking for a nu-Wall of Death, seperating the crowd not from left to right, but from front to back! For a few minutes, the floor of the Medley morphed into a gigantic thrash pit. Let me tell you, it was a beautiful sight! In fact, Skinless gave such a good performance, the crowds were asking for more! As the staff was almost already wrapping up the stage, the insistance of both the band and the crowd had its way against establishment, and exceptionally, the band came back for a last song! This time around, they called out for the headbangers to take care of business, and hair all over the place started swaying to their rhythm.

At last, to end the night, the curtain falls on the giants of Quebec's brutal death scene, Cryptopsy. The extremely talented musicians toy with their instruments facing a packed room of enthusiastic metalheads. The result is impressive! That a band so technical succeeds to deliver such a long and flawless set, is nothing short of phenomenal! We can only ponder on Christian Donaldson's picking, and of course on Flo Mounier's nearly living legendendary drumming skills to understand how much Cryptopsy deserves all the respect they get worlwide. A Mounier solo lasting 15 minutes, can you imagine?

After witnessing such talented vocalists as Ian Campbell and Jason Keyser, however, the critics go down on Lord Worm once again. I wouldn't say he was horrible, we've surely seen worse, but onstage presence, I'm under the impression that he'll never quite get it.. Although certain of his interventions were relevant, others causes a few smiles and chuckles. On this, you know what they say : any publicity is good publicity!

For the first show of this year 2007, we've been served a good gumbo. The departure of Neuraxis frontman Ian Campbell, a killer perf from Skinless, add to that a Reverend and a couple of legendary musicians.. you have quite a memorable night!

I'll be attending the Dark Funeral w/ Enslaved & Abigail Williams this thursday if everything goes well, so.. Until then, stay metal, kids!

Amen.

Busy times, drunken times, time for family reunions, for friends to gather and feast. Gotta love the Holidays.. :P

Here's an illustrated Holiday story!

Christmas was full of good surprises this year (not. lol). I knew pretty much what it was all gonna be about, but hell..

Karaoke machine of doom! It's really a family gift though, my parents are enjoying this a bit too much.. I won't even tell you if they're any good, I'll let you figure that out by yourselves.. :P

Coolest gift! And I can just listen to music next to my bed, so I don't have to get up to close it before sleep. Sweeeet.

Infamous Canadian money :P

All dressed up and madeup for Christmas eve, oooooooooh!

My Beautiful grandmother. I, watching, was rolling on the floor laughing. I laughed so much I was crying, I swear. I guess I was very drunk too, for that not to disturb me.. xD lol

So that's about it. I'll try and do a recap of 2006, now.. lol

So 2006 was a very busy year! I bought a lot of CDs, lots of shows I attended, travelled a lot too. I'll do this recap accordingly to those three things, then describe a few marking moments.

CDs bought in 2006:

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Carnival in Coal - Collection prestige
Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper
Children of Bodom - Something Wild
Dark Tranquillity - Character
Dio - Master of the moon
Dio - Holy Diver
Finntroll - Nattfodd
Go Sumo! - EP
Hypocrisy - The Arrival
In Flames - Colony
Kalmah - Swamplord
Kalmah - The Black Waltz
Mononc' Serge & Anonymus - L'Académie du Massacre
Nightrage - Sweet Vengence
Pantera - Vulgar display of power
Sentenced - Cold White Light
Slayer - Christ Illusion
Slayer - God Hates us All
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Slayer - Undisputed attitude
Slayer - Hell Awaits
Stratovarius - Episode
Suffocation - Suffocation
Warmen - Beyond Abilities

DVDs
(not a great year, really..)

Children of Bodom - Chaos Ridden Years
La Vie en Rose - Live DVD
The Little Mermaid (New Edition)
Anchorman
Be Cool
Apollo 13 (New Edition)
Hysterical Blindness
One of Them
The Visitation

Shows!

Jan. 21rst - Sonata Arctica, Forgotten Tales, Sequence (Medley, Mtl)

Jan. 22nd - Sonata Arctica, Forgotten Tales, Sequence (Capitole, Qc city)

Feb. 21st - In Flames, Trivium, Devildriver, Zao (Kool haus, TO)

Feb. 24th - Sonata Arctica Special Night with Forgotten Tales (Cabaret du Capitole, Qc city)

Feb. 27th - Dark Tranquillity, Soulforge, Insane, Symbolic (Club Soda, Mtl)

Mar. 24th - Children of Bodom, Chimaira, Through The Eyes Of The Dead (Kool haus, TO)

May 19th - Anonymus, Road Bones Dread (Foufs, Mtl)

Jun. 17th - The Unholy Alliance Tour w/ Slayer, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, Thine Eyes Bleed (Tsongas Arena, Lowell, MA)

Jul. 2nd - The Unholy Alliance Tour w/ Slayer, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, Thine Eyes Bleed (Centre de Foire, Qc. city)

Jul. 23rd - Mindless Self Indulgence, Kill Hannah, ProCon (Spectrum, Mtl)

Aug. 20th - Icewind, Midwar, Anemonia, La Pianiste qui rêvais d'humanité, BodySerpent, Hollow Grief, Stryxvirii (Kola Note, Mtl)

Sep. 16th - Family Values Tour (mainly for Dir en Grey, which was a big dissapointment)

Sep. 19th - Tormentor Allegoria,Homicide, Héritage Mystique, Angstorm (Arlequin, Qc. I look at this, and considering I missed Finntroll, Malmsteen and that Forgotten Tales show in Saguenay, it seems like a pretty empty year.. lol It's not, it just 'seems'.

Travels

February 18th to 23rd - Toronto

February 24th - Quebec City

March 24th to 26th - Toronto

April 14th to 16th - Toronto

May 20th to 26th - Massachusetts

June 17th-18th - Lowell, Massachusetts

July 2nd - Quebec City

September 16th to 17th - Mansfield/Boston, MA

September 19th-20th - Quebec City

December 16th to 18th - Worcester (MA) / New York City (NY)

Soo all in alll, it's been a pretty full year! ^^ Most of those trips were a lot of fun! At the exception of a few, including Quebec city in September, when my car gave its last breath on the way to a Forgotten Tales show in Saguenay.. SO I guess I should highligh good moments now?

All the trips to TO were cool. Always have a good time in TO, no matter what. (or who)

The In Flames show in TO was wicked! I loved it, and I was sad to miss them twice in Mtl because of work..

Dark Tranquillity was one of the best shows of the year, without question.

Unholy Alliance frustrated me, because I only got to see Slayer for about 10 minutes, at one of the gigs. But hell, apparently they're back on the road in 2007, so fuck that! lol I'm not missing them this time around!

Family Values Tour was fun, the place was full of shops, two guys fell on us nosebleeding because of some skinhead trash going on, we didn't see or hear much of Dir en Grey, but fuck that, the road trip with Mylene, Momo and Christine was fun ^^ Had a lot of fun on the road with Mylene and her Ipod, I wanna have her on a trip again! :P

Backstage with Stratovarius was an achievement for me, even though I just had to stick around with Marc and Ernie to get in! lol We had tons of fun, good booze and some interesting pics.. lol

GWAR was.. entertaining. :P Loved getting dirty, and discovered Municipal Waste opening for them. That band fuckin rocks, check them out!

Hypocrisy and Suffocation were AWESOME live!!!! Headbanged myself to death during Hypocrisy, then went in the nicest pit I've been to in ages for Suffocation. Good fun, I'm not mad I missed work for that one!

The Kataklysm gig was DEFINETLY on my top 3 of the year! The gig was flawless, all bands were good, I headbanged myself to death with Laury, then we all went party at the Saphir, Marc, Andrew, Marc (qc), Laury, Pierre, and bunch and bunch of other people! Was a lot of fun, wish I could do that every week!

Bodom was a perfect closer for the year. Saw this band 7 times just in 2006, twice in 2005, and they never fail. Amon Amarth was pure pleasure to hear and see live again, and of course the whole partying around the gigs was awesome. I'd live that life, easily. Always on the road, partying, live shows every night.. Met some very cool people on the road, will miss all of them dearly. Tatiana, Caroline, Kal, love you guys! See you all in 2007, I hope ;)

So that's ABOUT it.. Probably forgot some important shit, but.. Damn! Man, that was long to write! Took me all evening! Thank God I only have to do this once a year.. xD

All Bodom crew sweeties <3 I'm gonna miss these guys!

Chitty (?!?), Bodom crew hateface. \m/ Last souvenir of that braided goatee.. got cut the next day.

Image of the Nokia Theater from the inside. I had videos, but they all suck because of the shitty sound.

In the back and not looking (that's what happens when you pose for two different photographers at the same time!), Julie, Caroline and Tatiana, with my metal self in the front, looking where I should.

Last but not least, the most interesting picture of the night, thanks to my camera shutters that didn't open correctly! It gives it a nice little something, don't you think?

Also here's two short vids

This one's a short crappy caption of Angels don't Kill in Montreal on the 18th.

This one's from the tourbus, small video of the live Christmas Tree.

So that's it for the night, folks! Next update after Christmas time.

Amen.

Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Gojira, Sanctity - End of tour 2006

    <lj:music>Gojira - Global Warming (how fitting.. lol)</lj:music>

I didn't expect to have such a good excuse to post a review so late, really.. But considering the amount of driving and partying that has been involved in the endeavour of following Bodom on tour, good rest and a bit of time to screw my head back on my shoulders was needed.. MUCH needed :P

So here it is, a few days late, the approximately full review of 4 days on tour with the children from the lake Bodom and their friends.

On December 16th, I left Montreal with my friends Steve and Laurence. We were headed to Worcester, Massachusetts. Now apparently the bands were wondering why the fuck we'd want to go there, and after being there, of course, we all wondered why the hell we went there too! I must say, once and for all and for all the good reasons one could think of, Massachusetts fuckin sucks. Got there, hung out by the bus (and God only knows how much I hate doing that..). Then when it was time for the show, I got my pot busted and thrown in the garbage at the door, had to go back to my car to put my purse and coat in, because believe it or not, in December, in Massachusetts, there is no coat check at the venue! After I finally walked in, pissed off beyond words, in great need for a good beer, I realise I forgot to bring money and a piece of ID with me.. Luckily, Laurence went there and got me one! Muchly appreciated, by the way. I think you owned all the cigs I lent you just for that man! ^__~

In any case, the show started sort of on time with Sanctity. My first impression : impressed. Not by their music, although they're a good band, but by their vocalist's hair! It's like a show all to itself, and I didn't fail to mention that to him. Massachusetts crowd, aside from being filled with assholes and morons, was pretty wild. I guess not having many home shows makes these happennings all the more exciting to these motherfuckers. The security agents were being complete assholes and overly on guards, even blocking sight from the side of the crowd, forcing tired travellers (aka myself) to watch from the mezzanine, too sick of being pushed around by security for no reason.

Gojira was a good surprise for me. Somehow, my first impression was that it seemed like a more intellectual band.. Their music is agressive, and yet sophisticated. In any case, I loved them french fellas, watched with great interest. I'd love to post a setlist for both openers, but in the midst of all that craziness, I didn't think to ask for official setlists, and as I didn't know these two bands much before the shows, well.. You got what you got!

By the time Amon Amarth hit the stage, my neck was itching to bounce back and forth, but as I was on the fuckin mezzanine, sorta felt weird to headbang to myself (no, Massachusetts folks aren't too much into headbanging apparently). Their setlist, I have to say, was almost flawless! Hitting it with Valhalla Awaits, followed by Runes to my Memory. On that latter, I had a smile. Ok no, more like a stupid grin. It was like seeing the video to that song, but live, all the guys heandbanging to the same rhythm. Looks somehow corny, but in a good way! lol Now kill me if I suck, I know I've seen the show 4 times, but I can't really remember in which order the other songs were played.. Tried to write them down, y'know, but it's sorta hard when you're in the mood and specially when you suck with song titles.. *coughs* I'm pretty sure they played Death in Fire next thought. Asator, Fate of Norns (apparently..) and closed it all up with Pursuit of Vikings. They had the crowd to sing along to that one each night, and somehow it worked! Impressive. I'll try and come back later with the correct setlist, if changes need be made. I'm sorry now, I have a blank. Sorry. All their gigs were good, of course, despite the sound problems in Worcester and NYC.

Now! Bodom, Bodom, Bodom...

I've seen that band 9 times in a little bit more than a year now, and I'd see them again if they came back. Garantied good times with the Finnish boys! The show in Worcester was however rather dissapointing, but considering I was already pissed off and ready to leave before they even hit the stage, I guess I wasn't in much of a receptive mood anyways! lol But the sound in Worcester was fucked up, we could barely hear the guitars during Amon Amarth.. It improved a bit during Bodom, but not much.

Now what I'll do is just shoot the setlist for the 4 shows, since it was the same thing every night, and I'll comment on the 4 shows seperatly afterwards. (what did I get myself into.. *shakes head*)

Hate Me!
Chokehold
Sixpounder
Living Dead Beat
Are You Dead Yet?
Children Of Bodom
Needled 24/7
Angels Don't Kill
We're Not Gonna Fall
Mask Of Sanity/Deadnight Warrior mix
Bodom Beach Terror
In Your Face
--
Downfall

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't hear Children of Decadence there, unless it was mixed in with Chokehold as I saw some people wrote in other reviews (but I highly doubt it). Like I said, I suck with names, and if they mixed it all in and made it sound good, it's possible that in my states of inebriety, I didn't see it coming.

In any case, I pretty much think that setlist is correct.

Like I said Worcester will be most remember for craptastic sound and Alexi fucking up his solos pretty badly at times. I found myself wincing more often than smiling that night.

NYC was already much better guitar-wise, althought the drumbass was MUCH too loud, it sort of covered up the keyboards and lead guitars a bit too much. Some shit apparently happenned with the local promoter, too. Before the band came back onstage to play Downfall, Janne came on alone, adressing the crowd. He said something along the lines of 'hey, there's this guy that's been pissing off my crew and the band since the beginning of the show, he's really just an asshole, so I'd like all of you to just say a big fuck you to that guy, ok?'. The crowd started chanting 'fuck that guy!' in unison, it was truely really beautiful. Really. We learned later on that it got so bad that the band had to threaten not to play for that guy to just piss off and leave the side stage.. Eek!

First night in Montreal was sold out, as was the show in NYC. However, the ambiance was very different! The crowd was louder, crazier, the sound was better, the guys played better.. (I took a small video of that night in Montreal, during Angels don't Kill. I'd taken small vids of all the bands in NYC, but because of that loud drumbass, we can't hear anything as long as drumming is involved, which you'll admit, is pretty much all the fuckin time..)

Second gig in Montreal, though, was just the best out of all four! Laiho was on fricken fire! It came as a surprise to me after the show, but apparently Alexi was so drunk and hungover during the show that he was coming backstage often to just.. puke his brains out! Lucky I didn't stay on side stage for Bodom that night, I was in the crowd, and it was simply pure pleasure! I caught myself smiling after the solos, which were all right on it, ALL without exception! Really gave it their all for the last show of 14 months of non-stop touring.

Now!

After the Worcester show, we left immediately. I didn't want to stay a minute more in this shitty motherfuckin redneck hellhole! I drove to NYC with Steve keeping be awake, listening to Kylähullut and WASP, while Laurence was sleeping still on the backseat. We tried to wake her up in Connecticut for some McDonald's, she wouldn't hear it. We got to NYC at 5am, all the cheap parking lots were fuckin full!! So we had to park in this one that cost 34$ a day X___X For two days! So in the end, we payed 68$US for 48 hours of parking.. Ridiculous.

I'd booked a hostel for us 3, we checked in and got to our rooms, falling dead. However! I only got 3 hours of sleep that night (or morning, whatever) because of this fucked up old bitch that kept poking me with a MOP for 4 hours every 15 minutes or so!!!! Why, you'll say? Because I was apparently snoring. This spanish lady beneath me had a FUCKIN BABY in her bed, that kept crying, and no one said shit about that, and no one said anything either when she started talking on her cell phone in the middle of the fuckin night either, but I was kept awake because I snored after a metal show and 11 hours of driving.. At some point, I got so pissed that I just grabbed the end of the damn mop and yelled at the lady something like "Fuck!! if you keep poking me awake with that fuckin broom, I'll shove it up your ass, got it?!!" . I was maaad pissed off! She then told me that she could see what kind of person I was judging by my language. Pff.. Dead right, it's easy to see I'm a PISSED OFF person! Anyways, since I obviously couldn't get any sleep with that psycho bitch next to me, I went down to the office desk and asked to get changed rooms, told my story. I even brought the damn mop down with me! lol They couldn't believe it. They changed me rooms, and changed Laurence to my room too the next morning.

We left for the shows in the afternoon, met up with Ernie & friends there. After the gig, we hung out outside the venue. I was already going "oh no, not again! I don't wanna wait out for the fuckin bus again!". But am I glaaad we did :P Laurence made conversation with this Catherine chick from Alaska.. o.O She seemed nice at first, so we hung out, chatted, and at some point a Bodom crew dude came over and asked us if we wanted to come on the bus and hang out. I think we all smiled and looked at each other like maaad yeaaaah! lol Steve tried to follow, but he staed out for a while. Eventually came in, but not with us. lol So we ended up having a few cigarettes and a drink on the bus with that crew guy, Lhassy (however you write that.. stupid finn names..). Laurence helped him install some Christmas lights in the backroom of the bus, commonly refered to as 'the smoking room', to me at least. Met that girl named Tatiana too, and some other chick which name I can't remember just now.. Later on the band joined us. As soon as Alexi came in, that Alaska girl started asking him if he remembered her from internet n shit, was sorta weird.. Then when everything was packed up, the tour manager came in, looking a bit pissed off (probably because of that shit that happenned with the promoter dude), and told us we had to get off the bus. As soon as we came off, the bus left for Montreal. Steve got a drinking ticket because he was walking the streets with some little cup of wine Henkka gave him.. lol We then hit the taxi again and went to shower and sleep.

We woke up at 8 the next morning, packed up and left at around 10, cuz we waited for Steve a mad long time. The fucker had slept on the couch downstairs, like a retard, and kept us waiting because he was still sprawled in front of the TV.. lol We got the car, then drove off. Before we left NYC, I said we'd be in Montreal at 4:30PM. Guess what time we arrived in Montreal? :P

When we got at the Metropolis, the line was already reaaally long. I called Marc, he met us in the line. When he got there, me and Kao went to hang out next to the bus, again.. Tatiana and this other girl, Caroline, walked out of the bus, and Kao (Laurence) just poked and said hi. She seemed very pleased to see us! Anyways, after a while, Marc left to get Steve, and it was taking a while, so I went to see, and by the time I came back, both Kao and Steve had all access fuckin backstage passes! X___X I was like.. WHAT? No fuckin way I drove your ass all weekend NOT to get a backstage pass if you guys have one! Kao left for her exam, Steve left to I dunno where, I was just left there to find a way to get one too.. I waited for the tour manager (I won't even risk trying to type out his name..) to come back, and I was SO damn shy, I hated myself. lol I still went over and it went a bit like this..

Me: Hi! Hm.. well.. my two friends Steve and Laurence both got backstage passes, and well.. I was wondering if I could have one too..?
Him: *looking at me weird* Hm.. are you friends with the band?
Me: *blinks* I was on the bus yesterday like the other two.. so.. yeah, I guess!
Him: *that weird look again*
Me: *taking off my winter hat*
Him: OHHhhhh! Ok! Just wait here a minute, I'll send someone over to give them to you.

So yeah, it was ackward.. but funny! lol Apparently I look very different with my hat on.. xD

We watched the show from the bar, going outside very often due to the place being SO WICKED HOT! It was so packed, we were lacking air at some point. Tatiana came to meet us out back, and after the show we hung out upstairs before going backstage. Backstage, basically, was a room filled with people, bands and fans and crew and venue staff, all talking and drinking. We hung out backstage on the 18th till approx. 1:45am, then we walked in the bus, smoked a cigarette, had a very interesting conversation with Alexi about Internet and global warming *coughs*, and then everyone was off to a bar, so we ended up at the Foufs! Drank a bit there, then went back at the bus and partied some more. Drank some more. Smoked some more. We got off that bus it was 5:30am! I drove us to Kao's place, then crashed. Litterally.

On the 19th, I was sorta hungover. I hid it well, but the three drinks I had before the show helped to remind me.. lol I was SO damn wasted! Before that we went to have dinner with Tatiana in Chinatown. Dragged he to drink bubble tea, tried to find some cream soup for Eric, the merch guy, but didn't find any. During the show, we hung out backstage with the bands that weren't playing. I went up during Amon Amarth, just in time to see one of Bodom's crew member get on stage, wearing a cut off case of Corona on his head, with two bananas stuck to the sides as horns. He went out there, wearing this thing as a hat, topless, headbanging like a crazy fuck with the Amon Amarth guys. :P They had their revenge, as their singer Johan came onstage during Bodom's gig dressed as the fuckin reaper!! lol After the show, when I walked back downstairs, I ran into him and stepped back with an horrified look on my face going 'ahh! the reaper!'. He found that very amusing, apparently. lol SUCH a nice guy, he looks like a badass viking dude onstage, but offstage, I dunno if I'm allowed to destroy his mystery like that, but he's just a sweety :P

At some point, after the gig, two girls walked backstage. We were standing and I so happenned to look in their direction, and one the girls asked the other 'hey, where's your backstage pass?'. The other girl giggled and went 'it's right here!', tapping on her ass (her pass was stuck on to her backpocket). Janne, who was standing next to me, just burst out in laughter. He took on a silly face and said 'hey, look at my pass, it's on my ass!', mimicking the girl. At that point, I was like.. :O Omg, I hope he never does something like that to me, I think I'd die embarassed.. lol Poor girl, he said that so loud! It was dead funny, but.. it wouldn't be if it was done to you, y'know? lol At that moment, I understood exactly what people meant when they said Janne was an asshole.. lol

The last night of partying with Bodom was spent drinking backstage yet again, smoking a joint with Roope on the tourbus, then singing some Skid Row and Poison and bunch of other '80s songs with Alexi in the smoking room. By then, I was dead yet. Very much so. lol I was barely talking anymore, I was just sitting there being a fuckin zombie! But that's ok, I guess. After 4 days of getting an average of 4 hours of sleep each night, drinking, going to metal shows, partying, driving long-ass distances.. it caught up to me! When the tour manager came in to tell us they were leaving, I was almost relieved! lol Gave everyone a big hug, including all those people I didn't really get to talk to a lot (Alexi, Janne). Got some contacts, then left the dream life of metal, partying and travelling to go back to my normal life.. At least I could get some sleep! :P

That'll be it for now, I'll upload pics and vids tommorow, it's already 5am dammit! X___X

    <lj:music>Go Sumo! - Leo</lj:music>

So to all of you reading this expecting a metal show review, ah HA! It's not. Pop rock on the menu tonight ladies and gents, a pretty good one too. Got a call last night, a certain someone invited me to yet another show by that band. At first, I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to stay home and rest, but I ultimately gave in. Close call, I could've missed a damn good show! I saw this band 4 or 5 times already, and out of all the shows I've seen, this one was the least crowded, but definetly the best!

So enough with that personnal shit no one cares about, on with the review!

The show started around 9:45 (was supposedly on a 8, but a pop rock show on time is like a plane not late, aka something you don't see that often..). Started out with my favourite song, the highly addictive and danceable Tatia, followed closely by LN1, another drug-like anthem. The peek of that song near the end would make an obese japanese wanna dance his fat ass off.

So LN1, then Utata. Weird thing to put those two back-a-back, considering the main riff in Utata sounds kinda sorta like LN1, but hell.. Some continuity, I guess! In any case, as one of people's favourite, it makes people dance just as much. (when there is people! haha ha ha.) Hm.. yeah. So LN2 follows Utata, bringing the mood down a little, just a little.

The sound was amazing, and on that show you could hear the bass a lot more, which added a nice feel to it. Dolls, which was up next, came out extremely good. Their sound is coming out so much more live as it does on album, the rock in pop/rock comes out more, it gives intensity to their perf. Which, between you and me, is always a good thing! The last LN, LN3, came rockin' next, followed by Can, taming the mood and making me worder why I only got up then! I felt kinda stupid swaying in front of the stage alone with 2 other people, but hell.. Leo ruled the problem out, making me wanna dance all over again!

The set ended with their latest song, Rancy (confirmation needed on the spelling). The ending of that song tonight ended the set with much intensity. The drumming was feverish, the vocals scorching, the guitars roaring with intensity. What an ending! Makes us forget the few small misses during the show.

Now there weren't many of those 'misses', only perhaps that guitar part during LN1, where one guitar was sorta off. Also perhaps the keyboards in Leo were not loud enough to hear, which is sad considering they're pretty important in that particular song. It made it sound heavier though, hence why it's not that much of a huge miss. Other than that, it was rather flawless. The drumming was particularly loud and always right on it, the bass was a lot more present, the voice was clear and strong, all in all, the band was on fire!

The setlist is very good, the only thing about it maybe would be the first two choices.. Now this is perhaps only a matter of perception, but seeing to it that Tatia is a very danceable song, I thought it would be better to have it played second to LN1, which would start the show beautifully. LN1 builds up slowly to a feverish ending, which would draw people on to ear more of that, so my thinking is Tatia would be like the cherry on the sunday after LN1! Would bring people on to the dancefloor!

So how about this.. review done, shameless publicity on! Go Sumo! Live at the Maison de la culture Maisonneuve this Friday December 15th! 4200 Ontario E., in Montreal (Pie-X Metro). Cost : 12$/10$students.

If you feel like dancing a bit, go see these guys, you'll have your money's worth! And if you like it, they just released a EP with 4 marvellous songs on it, only 5 bucks and you can dance on some Go Sumo! at home, isn't that wonderful? Of course it is.

Random fact: Did you know that Go Sumo! supports fat people wearing giant white diapers? Apparently, some people choose to support causes, like Greenpeace, but fat asian wrestlers are far more entertaining, aren't they! For any donations to the cause, see Jean-Charles, I'm pretty sure he'll be glad to handle them for you.

In the meantime, here's a sneak preview!

Go Sumo! - Leo

Also check them out on myspace!

http://www.myspace.com/gosumo

Peace Out!

A female and a male vocalist, furious japanese finger dexterity and dramatic power-ish metal with a hint of national flavor. Worth a listen, definetly. The intro to the song Kemai Tachi is just mad.. take that song and add some death vocals to it, it would kick God's ass back to heaven. Anyways!

I so realize from uploading so much in the past days, somehow I have more power metal than any other type on my computer, and that's sorta fucked up considering it's far from my fav type of metal.. but who cares, right?!.. :P

Enjoy!
<lj:music>Into Eternity - Isolation</lj:music>

I've really been off on LJ, now haven't I? I barely update anymore.. ah well.. I'll try and update a bit more in the next few months, since I'll be up to a LOT of stuff! Lots of shows to come, lots of reports to write :P

Now now, for tonight, what I got on the menu is : Profugus Mortis, Ashes of Eden, Atheretic, Necronomicon, Kataklysm, intense neck pain and a nice after show bash at the Saphir nightclub.

So I got there at 5 something, and when I saw no one I knew in line, I figured they'd be in already and just went to eat dinner. Which proved to be a great idea, since I don't think I would've been able to stand through that show with no food in first. My energy bar was sorta low when the evening started, and I was sorta scared that it would affect the rest of the evening I had planned. But hopefully, the bands did a great job putting me in the mood! :P

First up were Profugus Mortis. Now I knew that band for a little while, and I was looking forward to see their new stuff live. Since the last time I saw them, in October 2005, they have evolved quite a lot : in a fuckin good way! They're strong, right on it, and their energy bar was WAYYY full. All of them (but specially Emily, the violinist) were sending waves of energy to the crowd, that was unusually active for a first opener. What can I say, with a brilliant mix of death and folk metal, those Montrealers have won us over many times, and with the experience gained as openers for many great bands in the past year (Finntroll, Yngwie Malmsteen, Lacuna Coil), they now have all the ingredients, and they sure as hell know how to mix them in to pull off a kickass show! The crowd was asking for more, and I was in that crowd! Sadly, they were cut off by the staff, lack of time. But hell, they're back on January 17th with Moonsorrow at the Saphir, possibly launching their debut album. Be there folks, it's going to be memorable!
http://www.myspace.com/profugusmortis

Next were Ashes of Eden. Now, I didn't know that band at all before the gig, and I'm sad I didn't, I missed out for so long! Anyways, they pulled a nearly flawless show. Blasting their thrashy melodic death upon us, and blowing us all away with their impressive hairdos, these guys are oozing goodness! Check them out, it's worth a listen. Promote, promote! Good bands need good fans! Now I swear, I wish I had more to write about them, to convince you of how good they are.. Think catchy thrash metal riffs on Swedish-influenced melodic death metal at the likes of the best of Dark Tranquillity, and you got one kick-ass Quebec-based band named Ashes of Eden! Myspace doesn't do 'em justice, catch the band live, and sue me if it sucks!
http://www.myspace.com/ashesofeden

Atheretic came next, giving a pretty melodic evening a blast of brutalness. Sadly, the crowd wasn't very 'extreme' so to say, causing the moshpits to be sorta ephemeral. The first circle pit was fine, as was the "wall" (basically a crowd split in two, charging against each other. If you want mental image, think Braveheart. Insane.). For the rest, it gave most people a break from all the headbanging! With furious speed, highly technical and chaotic brutalness, they've imposed themselves to the Montreal extreme metal scene as one of the best bands around. Signed on to Galy Records (Anonymus, Neuraxis, Cryptopsy, Martyr, just to name those), these guys know their shit, and it showed!
http://www.myspace.com/atheretic

Necronomicon.. Another band I discovered last night. And yet another nice discovery! And another occasion to headbang myself to a nice headache.. I was surprised to find that their singer is the infamous Rob, a BCI staff member. And as it turns out, I ended up eating at Jimmy's Restaurant tonight with a friend, and fell upon their drummer, which incidentally was our waitress' nefew.. lol She said to a co-worker he was playing "crazy music", as any 50 years old lady would've qualified it . :P Anyways, the three-men formation fed us some agressive black/death, and succeeded to work up the crowd, so much that after their set, half of it fell on their ass and sat to watch that video that was presented before Kataklysm came onstage (I'd love to describe it to you, but I was up front behind it, and couldn't see it. All I heard was talking, and I honestly didn't really pay attention..). These guys are way solid, and they've been around since 1991. Fervent supporters of the local scene, they claim loud and strong that Montreal is the capital of metal in North America. To that I say, amen!
http://www.myspace.com/necronomiconmetal

Now last but not least, Kataklysm! That - was - insane! Death metal godness, this band is so fuckin under-rated! Signed on to Nuclear Blast, the guys have been touring the world, recording for a over a decade now. 15 years exactly, sharing that anniversary with a horde of furious Montreal metalheads last night. Their solid riffs will have you headbanging yourself to fuckin hell! Their message came off clear : have fun, and we're having fun. And boy did we have fun! Bodysurfing reached heights yet unknown last night, ladies and gents! You simply cannot believe how many people ended up onstage, headbanging with the Kataklysm guys before diving back for more! At first they were going one at a time, then two, then three.. in the end, people were climbing up on stage in masses, sharing the last song with the band onstage, on their own invitation! The stage, the floor, the floor, the stage, same to them. They added a human touch that few bands dare to give into. Or perhaps they just understood what wonderful fans we are in Montréal, Capitale du Métal ! \m/

AMEN!

After the gig, we ended up at the Saphir, partying our ass off. We closed the bar (probably amongst the last 20 people to leave the place), and all ended up feasting at George Le Roi du Sous-Marin. Got home at 6am, poured myself into bed, and now I have the worse pain in my neck, but it's somehow satisfactory. It reminds me of how metal I am, I guess.. lol Or whatever the fuck makes it good to me, I feel and accept it as a reminder of all the fun I had!

Next week: Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Gojira, Sanctity x4 !!!!!!! Huge motherfuckin roadtrip of hell, dudes and dudettes! Photos, complete summary and live report to come! (and I'll beat myself into doing it for real, and stop being a lazy biatch and procrastinator! If it's not up by next thursday, you'll all allowed to call me a big fat liar.)

Peace & Metal!
<lj:music>Sentenced - The Luxury of a Grave</lj:music>

Wow, is it possible that I found time to update my LJ? :O It's gonna be a tiny update, since I have too much to tell and I don't really have enough time to make it elaborate :P

So I finally managed to ask my boss for those two days off, one on November 13th for Hypocrisy & Fear Factory with Caro, and one on December 18th for Bodom . Which I will most likely, if everything goes well, see 3 nights in a row :P Yep yep, I'm almost officially driving up to Worchester MA, then to NYC, then back to Montreal with Steve and maybe Kao. It's gonna be awesome, Amon Amarth and Bodom 3 nights, I love my life.. xDD Oh! And Marc and Ernie will be there for the Montreal show, which brings more awesomeness to the whole thing.

I also got two free tickets to that Metallica cover band, Alcoolica . These guys are really pretty good! Mylene's gonna come with me this time around. <3

Halloween partying was pretty sweet this year. We decided to go to the Foufs, since it was raining out and nothing else good seemed to be happenning anywhere else. We were supposed to be a few peoplez, but Momo dropped out, Cynthia dropped (so fuckin sad, really.. ¬_¬), Kao was too tired, so we ended up being me, Caro, Val and Mylene, which I recruited last minute. ^^ I met Julie there too, some girl I used to go to college with, and we ended up hanging out a lot. When I lost the other 3 in the crowd (which happenned when I was reaaally drunk, I started hanging out in the smoking area (which was outside and very small), and made a few friends ^^ In any case, they found me, that was the trick! (where's the first place you're gonna look for when looking for me? smoking room! lol)

By that time, I'd drank 16 shots and 4 beers, it was time for me to stop.. lol (I was driving, eek!) We went to have some food, then me and Mylene were both 'mleh' to the idea of going back inside. Caro and Val still went back, we went to my car and listened to Billy Idol, Gilette and New Kids on the Block. XDD 90's greatness, always welcome to a drunk's ear!

On wednesday night, after the job, I ended up joining Kao and Val at the Go Sumo show. (Kao's brother's band) These guys are good, but they played my favourite song first, when no one was even dancing yet.. So they lose a point. But it was still cool. ^^ More beer, more drugs, more poprock to dance to. Me was a happy lady. ^^

SO that appears to be it.. I still don't know what I'm gonna do on December 2nd for my b-day.. Road trip to see Anonymus in Jonquière, or party at home with a few friends? Hm...

On a last note, here's two links. One to the most addictive online game ever, one to some hilarious website I fell upon yesterday, and that made me and Laurie laugh so hard we even cried!

So I'll leave you all on this.

Amen.

This weekend I'll try and post alll the pictures I didn't post out of laziness :P So expect a HUUUUUUUGE ass picture post.. :P

I've been feeling like shit for the past two days... I wonder what's up.. But in any case, I got my ticket for GWAR, I ordered a Warmen CD off ebay, and another from Amazon, L'Académie du Massacre . Good metal + good Quebec comedy = well.. good. :P I was supposed to go out tonight, but my friend called off, and I was sorta tired, so.. it's all good. I went to get a bubble tea and pick up Kao, we went to toke at her place. Was cool, relaxed, as usual. :P I realize I don't post as often as I'd like here.. Not that I have nothing to talk about, but I have too fuckin much! And I'm lazy.. A+B=C, y'know? ^^

I'll start checking out for University next September.. For now, I'm still saving up that money for an eventual trip to Europe/Scandinavia next summer/fall . It's going fine as of now ^^ I'm going shopping for shoes this Sunday, and URGH, I don't feel like it.. I wish I could go shop for clothes some more ^^ I desperatly need a new metal shirt, that's for sure.. I just dunno when I'll get around to go to the Labyrinth..

Anyways, I'm all over the place, it's sick.. xDD I'll go to bed, as I should've minutes ago..

Amen.

    <lj:music>Vital Remains - Rush of deliverance</lj:music>

Soo because of my new job, I get to see a lot less shows than I would like to.. which is sorta good for my budget :P But anyways, it still sucks.. But hell, I'll just be spamming the scene still once again this fall! lol Many great shows were announced, even greater shows keep being announced . It's a lot of work to keep track of!

But anyways, those are the few bands I'll be seeing this fall : GWAR, The Red Chord, Municipal Waste, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Gojira, Sanctity, Forgotten Tales, Dreamcatcher, Heir of Destiny . I'll MAYBE still drop at the Fear Factory gig, for Fear Factory.. even though the band I REALLY wanted to see was Hypocrisy... I might go to Kataklysm, Necronomicon, Atheretic, Ashes of Eden and Profugus Mortis.. anyone wanna come with me? ^^ Cryptopsy, Skinless, Neuraxis and Rostrum, anyone interested?

There's possibly the Trois-Rivière Metal Fest, but the night that turns me on the most is the Friday night lineup, so.. since I'm woooorking.. ¬___¬ Pff..

That already seems like a nice fall/early winter. :P along with all that much partying.. AND still putting money aside for that trip to Scandinavia next summer/fall!

Amen.

Behind the cut you'll find photoshop art I did tonight when I got really bored . It woke up the photoshop artist in me, really !

It's a few layers of color/brightness/saturation play, on two screens of the same image, one natural and darkened, and another outlined and sketched roughly . I love the dirty effet it has . You really have to have it on your desktop to really feel the intensity of it, really !

I feel accomplished . ^^

    <lj:music>Warmen - They All Blame Me</lj:music>

Only one word : Backstage!

So I guess I should talk about the show, even though I don't really have much to say... xD I started out 2nd row, fronting Tolkki . The band came out strong with Hunting High and Low and Black Diamond, followed by SOS and Kiss of Judas (I think...) . By that time, I had been moved to 3rd row, squished between my friend Marc and some weird guy that was constantly rubbing himself against me.. I was in SUCH a headbanging mood, and so I just decided after a moment to move out back . So the rest of the show is sorta blurry... xD I met up with an old friend out back, it had been freakin forever ! We used to drink bubble teas together at some point, but we lost contact fast .

So, since the rest of the show gets blurry, what I'll do is just simply highlight some moments .

-At some point, Lauri got close to Tolkki and started singing to the song in his ear, but we could see that he was just going 'WA WA WA WAAAA WA WAA WAAAAA!!!"... xDDD Tolkki just gave him one of those looks, like 'wtf man?!', and Lauri made a face that went something like 'oh hehe, I know, I know, I'm a moron... don't kill me . o.o', and then they both parted, laughing . It was odd, but funny . ^^

-They played Forever, and everyone, but I mean EVERYONE started singing . At that point, I was out back, but still singing my guts out.. I would've LOVED to be up front for that... ;___;

-They didn't play Destiny, which came out odd since it had been requested quite vehemently last year... That made me sad, it was dedicated to Laurie ! ;____;

-Father Time + Eagleheart + Will my Soul Ever Rest in Peace = Lots of headbanging . That's all I have to say . <3

When the show ended, I went by the merch tables, and there weren't any girl tees left, so I didn't buy anything . I already have a shirt of that tour, the nicest one . The others were ugly as fu** . So I went out, and practically ran to my car to get a dry shirt (had been raining before the show, so my previous overshirt was damped! I got my Episode album cover, a pen, my keys, ciggies and my cell phone to pass the time as I waited out . I smoked one outside, looking around and wondering where the band would come out from . But then I had to go to the bathroom, so I went back inside . When I was about to come back out, I saw my friends with whom I'd came in, waiting inside . I went to chat them up, and it turns out they were waiting to get backstage, as they knew an employee from the Medley that talked to Jorg to get them backstage passes! SO guess who tagged along? :P

It was awesome, really . I walked in and was offered vodka from Jorg, had a beer later on, got the autographing jobs done, then just relaxed . Lauri was sorta drunk (sorta very drunk), and at some point he just started singing some song in Finnish very loud.. lol It was hilarious . We chatted a long time with Jorg, just relaxing on the couches in the ugly backstage area . We ended up having fun talk with Tolkki and Lauri . Lauri got my friend Gen to sit on him, and I don't really remember what was said, but it was something perverted about having cute girls sitting on him.. xDD At some point, was very funny too, but this other girl that had left earlier called Gen on her cell phone, and Gen just answered "Yo, bitch!", but reaaally loud . Everyone started laughing, it was hilarious . xDD Kotipelto was sorta stiff, looked tired as hell, and didn't seem that much into social activities . I dunno if that was only tonight, but anyways . Still was nice enough to sign my copy of Episode AND my show ticket for Meg :P (I'll make myself a scan of the ticket though... lol I want to keep a good memory of that evening .) Also just before we left, Gen wanted a pic with Kotipelto, so we asked him, and they took a pic . A 'silent' pic, it was to be... lol I dunno where that concept came from, but everyone was sorta inebriated, so... xDDD While they were taking the picture, Timo just suddenly barked, out of nowhere like that . lol We all laughed so hard, as Gen jumped big time as he did it right in her fuckin ear.. xDDD Stiff, tired, but still funny, that Kotipelto.. :P A complex personality I say... lol

I met quite a few people at the show tonight too . Met this sweet girl, Stephanie . I'd met her before, at another show, but didn't really get to talk a lot . She lives in Dorion, which is close enough . She's a HIM fan though, uh oh... lol Also met that dude, Ernie . He came from Atlanta to see Stratovarius and take pictures.. He travels a lot for shows, as I could guess, which is at least one point we seem to have in common . :P I even travel a lot less than him, apparently.. lol In any case, nice guy .

So now yeah, I guess it's time to post pictures... :P I took a few with my cellphone, which look crappy, and I got one of Ernie's pics, which is... grandioso !

Blurry Lauri... (shitty cellphone camera + shaky hands = bad pictures, what else can I say...)

Marc and a groupie, chillin' on a sofa with Jorg drumsticks :P

Ernie posing for my super cellphone cam.. :P Such a badass... lol

Cheers !!!!! :P

......

and now the best pic ever....

Ernie and Tolkki... xDD They had a connection there I think... lol

Didn't succeed to get ahold on Jens though, he seemed slightly preoccupied and busy . He was far at the other side of the backstage area, talking on the phone, being on the computer or God knows what.. Tolkki openly said that Jens was a geek, which I thought was hilarious (though sadly kinda true and obvious lol) . So after that we went down and met up with Fred, Metal Universe's photographer . He was at the album launching for UneXpect, with Profugus Mortis opening . It just sucked that it was on the same night... =/ We had a small chat near the door, and we all went our seperate ways .

It was a memorable night for me, really . Next show up is apparently gonna be GWAR . I have a football game on October 9th, then October 22nd GWAR, and then most probably gonna be Bodom on the 18th of December... Would've been Fear Factory + Suffocation + Hypocrisy, but I'll be working that night... fucken shit . It's gonna be a looooong wait for Bodom, but I guess I'll hang on, with that DVD coming out on october 11th... :P I pre-ordered it already, from Finland.. *craze* But I can defend my move by stating that it comes with a poster *nods* so it was worth my 45$... I guess . lol We'll see when I actually get it .

Amen.
